However, despite the presence of the laptops the quality of the educational experiences does not truly shift for the students. Laptops do allow for the amplification effect to occur - whereby good teaching and sound pedagogy can be made better through the use of technology to further support and individualize instruction. The presence of the laptops however do not guarantee that this will occur.
In reading this book it is clear that while technology holds a promise for supporting reform, without the foundation of the pedagogy and content knowledge, as suggested in the TPCK model, teachers and schools will not be able to leverage this tool.

ReplyDeleteAs I read this entry, I was pondering whether all items should be weighted approximately the same. Then I answered myself: I think that the revising / rewriting piece is supremely different on a computer than it is with pencil and paper. (I almost single-handedly give computers the credit for me getting my doctorate. I had been told as a high school student that I was a terrible writer (bad handwriting and even worse spelling.) I lived with that tag for 30 years until computers freed me from the tedium of rewriting stuff in order to move sections of writing around.
Also.... I'd love to see more on the "dissemination" piece. I bet that could be expanded in a different way.
